Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a structured approach aimed at helping people maximise their potential to create a rich, full and meaningful life, while effectively handling the pain and stress that life inevitably brings. Therapist and client work collaboratively with a focus on developing psychological skills to deal with painful thoughts and feelings more effectively. This involves developing mindfulness skills to enable us to change the relationship we have with our difficult thoughts and feelings so that they have less influence over us. The therapist will also work with the client to understand what is important and meaningful to them (values) then use that knowledge to guide and motivate the client towards actions that that have the potential to change their life for the better.
